This lovely Devon beach is named Broad sands, just like the one more known in Paignton, Cornwall. Unlike the one in Cornwall however, this beach is not very sandy and nor it is broad. Even more, in fact, this beach is made of small shingly rocks and beautiful exotic looking coves with high cliffs and rock caves. The water is crystal clear but stays quite cold through the summer.
Also worth noting that this beach will change dramatically depending on tides. When the tide is out more of the beach is exposed and it creates a walkway to the other side of the headland with views towards Combe Martin. But when the tide comes in, separate coves are created that completely transforms it.
Accessibility
The Broadsands beach is relatively little known and usually doesn’t get overcrowded. It’s accessed via over 200 steps down the cliff from a little woodland area where you can leave your car for free. The access to the woodland is via a small unpaved track, which can be difficult to drive on with a lower car.
Wow factor
The beach has a beautiful wild feel with woodland, rocky cliffs, and caves adding to the wow factor. The water looks stunningly blue on a sunny day when descending to the beach and having a first glimpse of it.
Cleanliness
This is a very clean beach with no rubbish being visible on all of my visits here. This beach is dog friendly, but mind that there are no dog waste bins anywhere here.
Facilities
There are no facilities here like shops or toilets, just a great wild little beach!
