Just outside Aviemore, surrounded by a beautiful Glenmore Forest and scenic Cairngorms mountains lies one of the finest lochs of Highlands. Due to its fantastic location, picnic areas, hiking, walking, and biking trails around it, Loch Morlich is a perfect holiday spot. Windsurfing, kayaking, and sailing are a few of the activities available in the area.
The beach is wast and clean and is perfect for younger kids to roam free. In 2009 this beach became the first freshwater loch to receive a Seaside Award by the Keep Scotland Beautiful campaign. Also being 300 meters above sea level it became the highest beach above sea level to get this award.
As you would probably expect from a Scottish loch, the water can be a bit cold, however, it’s clear and refreshing. It can become quite busy on nice summer days, but luckily the beach is big enough for everyone. We recommend bringing wetsuits for the cool waters and some shoes if you’d like to walk around on some of the local trails.
Loch Morlich is also dog friendly so your four-legged friend can have as much fun here as you do. BBQs and campfires are not permitted.

Wow factor
It’s rare you see a beach like this at the freshwater loch. The mountains in the background of the loch are very eye pleasing and add to the exotic feel. The woodland surrounding loch provides some protection against exposure and makes you feel more connected to nature.
