Corrour

A small bothy in amazing location right in the heart of Cairngorm mountains. This bothy offers some of the best views and is the perfect base for those climbing Ben Macdui and other nearby mountains.

The Corrour bothy is located on the western side of the River Dee just at the base of Devil’s Point and Cairn Toul. Originally the bothy was built as a deer watcher’s hut in 1877, but after the last watcher left, it increasingly became one of the most popular bothies. It’s an idyllic remote location for multi-day hikers and climbers exploring many nearby mountain peaks. Inside the stone-built bothy is an efficient fireplace, a sleeping platform, and a wooden floor. On the outside, there is an extension of the building with dry toilets that were built after overuse, and bad toilet practices were becoming a danger to the environment.

Features

While the bothy is small it also is well insulated and the separate front porch helps to keep the heat in. There is a sleeping platform, a stool and chairs in the bothy as well as an efficient fireplace. Outside there are toilets that make it a more comfortable stay.

Location

If you had to imagine the perfect location for a bothy and its intended purpose then this will be it. It’s known as the most popular bothy in the area for a reason.

Size

It’s a small bothy that would accommodate 3 people comfortably.

Comfort

Although a small bothy it is comfortable and holds the heat decently well. Wooden walls help the insulation and a separate front porch adds to comfort. Having toilets in this location is a great luxury and must be treated with care.

Note! Put nothing other than human waste and toilet paper down the toilet hole! Other things like wet wipes may cause blockages which will result in the toilet being unavailable.

Accessibility

The Corrour bothy is about 3.5 hours hike away from Lynn of Dee car park. Accessible also from other routes but still long hike away.
